There can be different ways of explaining the production of a sound. One may not necessarily be better than the other. Use what works for you. Use the explanation that is clearest to you.
In general, it's good to be open to different forms of instruction. You are a good student to contrast the two explanations. Again, use what works best. Good luck.

We have a saying: Never say never.
It means you should believe in possibilities, not impossibilities. It's never too late to improve your pronunciation. For some, it can take more effort to retrain your mouth to move in an unfamiliar way. Practice regularly and be very aware of the mechanics. In time, the movements will become more automatic. The goal is to speak clearly, not necessarily eliminate an accent. Good luck!

you means nothing is better than effort...
but.. although we in korea have an effort everyday .. we cannot catch up with your pronunciation at 100%.
if i went to USA, i maybe would learn to pronunciatiing in english more or less perfectly.

i want to ask you one question plz.
what's the principle of widening mouth when people pronunce? i think it is because when pronunciation, people's side tongues are spread and it should be widened? if not, they don't have to widen their mouth..

When you say sounds, you form them with your tongue, lips, and jaw (opening and closing of your mouth). All three movements are important and can affect the clarity of a sound. If you want to ask about specific sounds, post your question here. :)

americans pronounce "city" like "siddy". ci-ty sounds more correct than cit-y, but making the T sound like a D might make it easier to pronounce.

wow this is really helpful. i speak english as a first language but i know someone who spoke french up until a couple years ago and he still has trouble saying this specific R sound. so now i'm going to send this to him.

Well, I accidentally happened across this video. I mean, I don't need help with my R's and I am a native English speaker, but I just wanted to say you have an incredibly relaxing voice. And since I am taking Japanese, I could see how R's could be a problem for some foreign people. Nice videos!
