Bullwhip Cracking: the Fast Figure-8

Uploaded by: AdamCWM
Video Description:
Here's a quick how-to video explaining the whip crack known as the fast figure-8. I'm using an 8 ft Indy-on-a-Budget bullwhip which I made and I've been selling them through my website www.winrichwhips.com.
For an extra challenge, try putting together a combination of the slow figure-8, the fast figure-8, and the volley. Do one of the patterns, and then, without letting the whip stop, go right into the next pattern. Visit my MySpace page: www.myspace.com/adamwinrich

Adam: After my last comment I googled your name and then realized WHERE I could pick up a whip like the one you are using. =) I also now realize why it wouldn't be in your best interest to teach people your techniques to whipmaking.

well, I have shown a few people some of my techniques, but whip making is really a very complicated process and it would be near impossible to do the process justice with YouTube videos. If you want to learn to make whips, I recommend a book called "How to Make Whips" by Ron Edwards.

Your movement is ... ( 9 months ago by PonyHorton)
Your movement is what took me so many years to learn; nice and easy. Amnthony DeLongis was kind enough to show me that. Now, instead of over-muscling, like on my previous video, I try to do it gently, in slow-motion so to speak, and I get much better, and more accurate, results. I use mostly Joe Strain 'roohide whips, but just looking at yours I can tell they are better than the average cowhide whip.
Great work!

I am a beginner whip cracker and I can do most of the basic stuff, but what is keeping me from doing more fancy stuff, such as the fast figure eight, is that my cattleman's crack cracks behind me. I do it almost exactly the same, but I get no loop that travels forward; the force is just exerted backward. Can you give me some advice?
It sounds like ... ( 6 months ago by AdamCWM)
It sounds like you're not letting the whip get all the way behind you before you throw it forward. If you just bring your arm up and down without waiting for the whip to get behind you, it'll crack behind your head. Check out my video about the cattleman's crack.

Just wondering, isn't it bad for the leather of the whip if it gets wet? If so... is it such a good idea to be using it in the snow?

Shorter ones are easier to handle and you got less chance of getting yourself in the ear. When you're talking about 10 12's, are you thinking about a david morgan?

the whips lit on fire are made from kevlar, so they're meant to burn. Frozen water (snow) doesn't do too much to whips as far as I can tell.
